Blair Vaughn’s style of yoga instruction flows with a creative energy that draws upon her playful
spirit, contagious passion and dedicated focus. She has spent the last nine years training with
notable teachers, like Seane Corn, to develop a practice that balances the fundamentals of yoga
with personal growth through its benefits. In each of her classes, she encourages students to
discover their own yoga journey while always remembering to smile and breathe.
Vaughn’s Southern charm comes from being born and raised in Anderson, South Carolina. After
graduating from the University of South Carolina with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and
mass communications, she spent two years working at a local newspaper in Boulder, Colorado,
and then moved to Lake Tahoe. In 1997, a snowboarding accident resulted in a fractured vertebra
in her mid-back. This unfortunate injury did have a positive outcome—it introduced her to the
world of yoga. As part of her recovery, she took a Hatha yoga class and knew immediately
afterwards that this would become her path in life. She then continued her journey by exploring
Bikram and Vinyasa classes while integrating her practice with a more conscious lifestyle.
After attending her first Yoga Journal Conference in 2004, Vaughn decided to study under Baron
Baptiste and received her teacher training certification from him. She then returned to the yoga
center in Lake Tahoe and started to teach classes. The next year, she was accepted to study with
David Life and Sharon Gannon, the founders of Jivamukti Yoga, which literally means “freedom
of the soul.” The training focused on yogic philosophy and elements such as chanting, ahimisa
(the avoidance of violence), breath and meditation. After completing this training, she decided to
move to Denver in 2005 to become part of a larger yoga community and then completed the
Yoga Works teacher training in 2007.
While living in Lake Tahoe, Vaughn traveled frequently to San Francisco to study with Seane
Corn. The two developed an immediate connection and Corn has been a major inspiration and
mentor ever since. Besides being a world renowned teacher, Corn has also influenced Vaughn by
spreading the ideal of taking one’s yoga practice “off the mat” and being a social activist
involved with important issues. In February 2009, Vaughn will join Corn and several others on
the Seva Challenge, a volunteer program where participants travel to Cambodia and partner with
the Cambodia Children’s Fund to work with local children living in poverty.
Vaughn currently lives in Denver with her husband and teaches yoga at several locations such as
Samadhi Center for Yoga, Pura Vida Fitness and Ascent Health Center, as well as offering
private one-on-one sessions and on-site corporate yoga. She is known for setting the tone of her
classes by playing music from her iPod that ranges from MC Yogi to George Harrison, and also
drawing upon simple, everyday inspiration that speaks directly to her students. Vaughn
constantly draws her own inspiration from students, the smile of her dog, Leo, morning yoga
stretches with her cat, Junior, and a strong curiosity to explore the world and continuously learn
from herself.
